Connections and Other Stuff

OK, do you know how when you find something interesting on the internet, you read a bit about it then they want you to click on another interesting link? Then another interesting link, and another, and then the next thing you know you end up 3000 miles from home and you wonder how you got there? Well that’s what happened to me the other day and I ended up in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, how cool is that? I always wanted to go there.

Hog Island Boat WorksI wanted to share what I found interesting in Steamboat Springs. What I found was  Hog Island Boat Works, they build plastic drift boats and skiffs and are billed as ” The World’s Most Advanced Shallow Water Polymer Boats”.  That’s right, almost indestructible plastic fly fishing boats! They now offer polymer drift boats and skiffs that come with a “plug and play” system for adding fly fishing options to the basic boat.  They offer many options for their boats which include decks, anchor systems, rod holders, additional seats, leaning posts and more. The boats float in inches of water are easy to repair if you get a ding in it and are Coast Guard Approved for flotation. They are really cool boats. You can find more information on their website http://www.hogislandboatworks.com

Their website has several cool videos to check out about the plastic boats, but be careful, if you are like me you’ll be in one of them plastic boats drifting along dreaming about nymphs and woolly buggers and the next thing you know you’ll be in Timbuktu with out a 5wt, where ever that is. I’ll bet they have never seen a good woolly bugger there. Happy Surfing!

FISH REPORT: Lake Monroe is finally back to normal levels and lots of people are enjoying the lake. Fishing has slowed a little with the higher temperatures but the word is there are plenty of carps, gills, crappies and bass to be had. Wet wading is a good way to cool off in the summer heat, just try to avoid the jet skis on the weekends.
