First Official Meeting of the Fall 2019

Well, here we are, the first official meeting of the year for the HFF is this coming Tuesday, October, 15th.  Again, this year we will be meeting at the American Legion Post # 18 at 1800 W. 3rd Street, Bloomington. Dinner at 6:00 PM and the program at 7:00PM.

The meeting this month will be a discussion on the 3-5 best flies for Wipers/Walleyes. Please bring your suggestions and/or examples.  We will also be treated to a tying demo by our own Mike B. He will tie a Clouser Minnow. BTW, when some folks are asked their 3 best Wiper flies the answer will be; Gray over white Clouser, chartreuse over white Clouser and an all white Clouser. Although I have heard some mumbles about a Deceiver… I am guessing there might even be some Wiper flies in the raffle.

As this is the first meeting of the year, dues are due, $20 for the whole year.  We will also create a slate of officers for next year to be voted on during the November meeting. Those lucky winners will take office at the Christmas party. The Members Christmas party will be Saturday December 14th at 5:00PM at the American Legion. The club provides the meal. The menu will be Turkey or Ham, Whipped Potatoes, Green Beans, Tossed Salad and Desert. Coffee-tea and rolls are provided. Appropriate Adult beverages will be on your tab.

As always, we are looking for future program ideas. Please do make some suggestions.  Hoping to see you all this coming Tuesday. 6:00 at the American Legion Blue Room.

Stays warm,

Tim

March 2019 HFF Meeting

The next meeting of the HFF will be March 19th at the Red Lobster. As usual we will meet at 6:00 PM for dinner and the program will begin at 7:00 PM. Our program this month will be a presentation by Dr. Ranjan Muthukrishnan on invasive aquatic species. I am sure this is an important and relevant topic for those of us who use and enjoy the outdoors. If time allows after the discussion, we will have a tying demonstration.

The April meeting will be at another new site, the Bloomington West Side American Legion. The program will be the annual auction. We ask the members to bring fishing/outdoor activities related items for the auction. Once again, we will have the pleasure of watching and listening to our own Kevin Montague show off his auctioneer skills.

The May meeting will be the annual Hoosier Fly Fishers picnic. Again, we thank the Clarke’s for their generous offer of their lakeside home for the picnic site. The tentative date is May 4th. Details and directions to follow. By all means bring a fly rod! I am including a picture of a typical Lake Lemon Bluegill.
See you at the Red Lobster on the 19th.
Tim
