Club Meetings 2014

November HFF Meeting

The next meeting of the HFF will be Tuesday November 18th at the
Colorado Steakhouse. Dinner at 6:00 and the program will begin at 7:00.

The program this month will be Barry Clarke talking about fly fishing
in Florida. At this time of the year my thoughts often turn to Florida
or at least some place warm. So, I for one am looking forward to
vicariously spending some time fishing in a warmer place.

The second part of the evening will be Dick Powell tying a fly pattern
to be announced. The flies on the agenda for the rest of the year will
be “classical” patterns. Just exactly what constitutes a “classic” pattern is still under consideration. For now lets say an older pattern that still catches lots of fish but has been over looked in the cacophony of new patterns and materials. And for now lets say a pattern that is at least 30 years old that would be before 1985. If there is a pattern you would like to see tied, please let me know.

The Christmas Party will be Sunday December 7th with the 14th as an alternate date. We have this gala event at the Colorado  Steakhouse we will start at 11:30 and the club will provide free food for members and a guest. The major raffle item will be announced soon. More information on all of this fun time will be coming soon.

A great thank you goes out to Jonathan and JLWaters for their generous help in providing great stuff of the raffles and continuing support of the HFF. Please let them know how much we appreciate this by stopping by and checking out their store. As always, shop locally!

See you on the 18th,

Tim

Bobbers, Bait Cans, and Irish Flags

The first Officially Official meeting of the Fall was a great success with several members attending along with a couple of new faces. Thanks to Bobby’s Colorado Steakhouse for the great food, service and hospitality. It’s always a good time there, check them out sometime.

Fly Fishing Montana

The speaker for the night was Larry Barber and he gave a very detailed sketch of his recent fly fishing trip to Montana.  Larry presented specific information on the trip, lodging, and places that he fished. He had a wonderful week long trip  and shared some pictures of the wonderful scenery and the big fish that he caught.  What a great destination for anyone wanting to fly fish some truly good waters.

Mike Donovan, program director for the club gave a demonstration on tying late fall flies for big bluegills. Mike always does a good job of explaining his tying methods and how to fish his flies. Mike tied a tri-color streamer and a Micky Finn both in size 12 for late fall one pound bluegills. Everybody wanted some of those flies.

Other things discussed at the meeting were, bobbers, bait cans, Irish Flags, two dollar drafts, clouser minnows, bamboo rods, Tim’s to-do list, and wipers on Lake Monroe.

HFF meetings are always very informal and anyone with an interest in fly fishing or fly tying is welcome to attend.  Check the calendar for upcoming meeting times and drop in to see what Hoosier Fly Fishers is all about.
