November 2025 HFF Meeting

I trust you all had a good look at the Super Moon/Beaver Moon last night. I would give that one a wow! And, 70 degrees on Wednesday with snow this Sunday. The highs and lows of Indiana weather….consistently inconsistent.

The next meeting of the HFF will be November 18th. We will again meet at the American Legion Post 18 here in Bloomington. Diner at 6:00 and the program at 7:00.

The meeting will have two parts. Maggie Sullivan from Friends of Lake Monroe will tell us about the latest happens at Lake Monroe. I am sure we will have some questions and we ask you to forward those to Kevin Montague before the meeting.

Joe Smith from Healing Waters will be talking to us about fishing ephemeral flies. I understand he also has a little game to play.

If time allows I will tie a variation of the Clouser Fly. This one is my Full Dressed Clouser, perhaps at odds with “the skinnier the better” advice for Clousers but it works…

Also the Christmas Party is coming up on December 7th at the Red Lobster in Bloomington. We will meet at 11:00 AM to tell tales and eat about 12:00 noon. Please let Kevin know if you plan to attend. And I might add, dues are due.
Hoping to see you all at the meeting,
Tim

August 2022 HFF Meeting

The August meeting of the HFF will be August 16th. As always we will meet at the American Legion in Bloomington at 6:00 PM for dinner and the meeting at 7:00 PM. In addition to the announcements and round table there will be a raffle. Future programs include an outing to Yellowwood when the weather is a little better. The October program will be most interesting, we are having Joe Smith of Healing Waters giving a presentation on their goals and activities. In November we will be having a program featuring Casting For Recovery. These programs are not to miss. As is always the case, we look for your suggestions.

The program this month will be two part. First, Larry Barber will be discussing the Copper John Fly. The Copper John, developed by famous tier John Barr, should be in every trout fisher’s fly box and rumor has it that local (one pound) Bluegill are also attracted to this little bugger. The second part of the program will be a real treat, Barry Clarke will tie a Copper John.

This is an excellent book to add to your library,” Barr Flies” by John Barr. The flies in the book are tied by Charlie Craven. Check out Charlies Fly Box for some first class videos. I am betting there is a 99.97% chance Larry will mention this book in his presentation. Here is a video of the “Barr’s Copper John Fly Tying Instructions Tied by Charlie Craven“.  Barry’s demo will give us an up-close chance to see the fly tied and a chance to ask questions. Videos are great but in person demos are much better…ask questions.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 16th.
